The turmeric powder in this pouch is Erode turmeric, a traditional cultivar of India, which has recently been awarded a Geographical Indication (GI) tag. The rhizome is boiled and dried in the traditional manner before powdering. The quality parameters of turmeric include 2.5 to 4.5% of curcumin content, golden yellow color, and resistance to pest attack. Stored in airtight containers, this will retain its aroma and color for at least a year. This is a ‘single source’ product that has been cultivated at our farm, situated in the buffer zone of Bandipur Tiger Reserve in Karnataka. Here the air is clean and the waters unpolluted. The crop is grown using farm compost and without the application of pesticides.
